A Window Opened

I'm not very religious, but I do beleive the saying goes something like "When God closes a door, he opens a window." This past Friday, I walked out of my office building for the last time, a decade of service sadly ending due to "reorganization." One lament I have is that the combination of my job and school has left me little time for my passions in life. Some, such as snowboarding and curling, are dependent on the seasons, but one, photography, knows no such limitations - a photo opportunity can come at any moment, whether the temperature is 95 degrees, or -20. So now I have some time...what will I do with it?

Well, there are now an extra 50 plus hours in the week for me to use to concentrate on school - this will allow me to take 4 courses in each 6 week semester, finishing up in December! I don't, however, expect my courses to take up ALL of my time, so that closing of the door behind me on Friday morning has now opened up the window of opportunity to pursue my passion, improve my creativity, and hopefully increase my exposure in the art world.

It starts this upcoming weekend - had I still been working, I wouldn't be able to hop a plane to Toronto and go camping with my sister and some friends I have up there. I'm excited about being able to visit Algonquin Park for the first time and I fully intend to immerse myself into nature, and try some new creative techniques with different filters and longer exposures that I've been wanting to for some time now. Maybe we're having too good of a time for me to even think about my camera, and I'm fine with that too...it's been a while since I've just kicked back and relaxed, clearing the mind...either way works, but whether it's this weekend or some random day that I just have time in the future, I'm looking forward to pulling out the camera a lot more than I have in the past!
